Finally Progress

Victor Reinganum, 1944.

When Richie brought me a delicious plate of freshly made pasta Carbonari, he had some good news for me.

The good news is, that there is considerable progress in the healing of the tear in the old pressure sore scar.

It seems that the new strategy, is working, it has worked as an acceleratant, just as Milou thought it would.

It is such good news, just what I wanted to hear, but I was scared that I wasn't going to hear Richie saying that for quite some time.

I'm so pleased, I really am so pleased, and funnily enough I just posted yesterday's post, which needed editing and a title as well as labels.

My title was some perspective of positive development, then an hour later Richie says, he has some good news for me.

Suddenly I have a perspective of a positive development, which is just amazing, this certainly puts a different perspective on everything.

I think I shall sleep so much better than recently and I shall be able to cope with the meeting tomorrow with the rehabilitation doctor and my
occupational therapist.

This really has given me a tremendous boost, which I really needed right now, hopefully now I should be able to enjoy time outside this summer.

I'm feeling optimistic and am looking forward to enjoying this summer with my darling Richie and our friends.

Hoping For Sunshine On Wednesday.

All I do these days is lie, here that is the thought that goes round and round in my head of course that is not the entire truth.

When I am down everything gets the same tint, it is after I have let my emotions go freely that I can begin to list for myself what I can actually do.
.
It’s abit like the film The Life of Brian, so what have the Romans done for us.

Surprise surprise there was a long list of what they had done.

Just like me, I too still do more than I am inclined to give myself credit for when I am not feeling so positive.

Of course I do need appliances, without the adjustable bed lying down is all I would be able to do.

What is causing me considerable anxiety is the fact that the extra time waiting in bed, for this tiny little tear in the skin to heal is not good.

The muscles in my torso are getting very slack, which means that I can not sit upright anymore without adequate support.

I now need constant adjustments as my posture changes all the time, seem to be sagging in the middle.

Must be getting harder for Richie to cope with, as he has more work now and as my condition deteriorates he will have even more to do, so glad he does it.

Had a very useful appointment with Johannake, my new occupational therapist, from the RCA, Amsterdam Rehabilitation Clinic

She advised us to put a pillow between my feet and the foot end of the bed to support my ankles so my feet point upwards and do not flop or point to the side.

This small adjustments has already made a big difference to me, since Johanneke suggested this I have been sitting better

Think these easy tips are the best, an easy solution to a situation that seemed more complex, funny how this simple solution has cheered me up tremendously.

Sadly again no sun today instead it has been overcast grey and dark and raining all day this has been more than compensated by the dogs keeping me amused with their games around me

Hoping that the weather will improve, hoping for sunshine on Wednesday for my birthday.

Visit From Ton.

It is an exceptionally cold day today, with a nasty easterly wind, and snow, which happened last night, just after Richie closed the curtains.

Shame that I did not see the snow coming down, love watching snowfall, mind you always hated how it looked after a few days in the city.

Shame that right now, I can’t go anywhere, not even for a quick look outside; mind you it is a touch too cold for me right now.

This morning all the snow was still here, heard very little noise outside so that was rather nice for us.

Meant we were not woken up very early by excited people, adults and children waiting for their course to start at the Fijnhout theatre across the road.

Have still not heard anything from the pigeons in the mornings, they are not being as loud as they often are at this time of year.

Think the unexpected cold snap has put them off starting their new breeding season, that and the fact that the anti pigeon stuff has been put down over all the guttering.

Good news that people visiting the building will no longer run the risk of getting pigeon poo all over their clothes as they arrive or depart.

So this year pigeons will not be shitting down our neighbour’s baby's bedroom windows or over their balcony and the kid’s bikes and toys.

Quite horrible to see this last summer, poor things every day they had to do a major clean up of their balcony and their windows.

Pretty dangerous stuff pigeon shit, can give you any number of unpleasant illnesses, salmonella is one of them.

Can't believe how difficult it was to get the anti pigeon stuff installed, took me about two years of emails to our landlord until they finally got the whole building done this year.

I feel pretty good getting this done; I shall enjoy it and hopefully will hear how much other residents like this improvement too.

Now there is no danger of being woken up early in the morning by amorous pigeons cooing all over the building.

Ton Peeks, from the Amsterdam Rehabilitation clinic, came by today to inspect my bottom, we were curious as to the progress, sadly this week was no noticeable change from last week.

I am not too surprised; recall how last year the healing of the pressure sore suddenly slowed down too.

It is frustrating but it has not made me feel depressed far from it I feel that I want to do my best to keep my spirits up.

Tomorrow is another day and who knows now Ton has suggested a lighter bandage perhaps the healing process will resume.

Mathilda will be here for my exercise routine and arm massage and Anne will pop by and visit.

A pleasant Thursday, one which I shall look forward to very much.
