Some parts of America are experiencing extreme drought and fires as well as tornadoes, terrible storms and flooding, many had no electricity.

Horrible news, I hope none of my blog friends are experiencing problems due to any of these events happening near them.

These problems are causing hardships and are unpleasant because they make daily life difficult and stressful.

Their troubles have all been caused by the weather; none of them are due to an out-of-control regime.

These weather-related problems almost fade into insignificance when compared with what is happening in Syria.

Where President Assad's murderous regime are daily killing hundreds of civilian purely in order for them to retain their control on the country.

This has been going on for 16 months now; a brutal conflict fought between an extremely well armed state machine and a lightly armed opposition.

The battle has been raging across the country, in Homs, Hama which is the city that Bashir Assad's father killed thousands in 1982, as well as Damascus.

Thousands of civilians have been murdered and many have been raped, tortured and incarcerated since this all started in April 2011.

Assad's army are supported by the Shabiha militias which are made up of Alawites; members of Assad minority élite, Sunnis, criminals released from prison by Assad as well as opportunists out for whatever they can get.

The militias act as the regimes brutal thuggish enforcers, they follow President Assad army, once the army had bombed and shelled its enforcers go in and rape, torture and murder all the inhabitants they can find.

Apparently the Shabiha do not want either the regime or the opposition, they are seemingly intent on destroying the country.

The fighting is now raging in Syria's largest city, Aleppo where Assad’s strategy again is to keep up a steady bombardment of the rebels just as he did in Homs until they are crushed.

The only difference now is that the Free Syrian army are not only in the city but they are also in control of the countryside around the city and they believe that they are now winning.

It is a shame that the regime of Bashir Assad did not step down earlier, but they wanted to stay in power no matter at what cost.

Hopefully the regime will be toppled soon and life can resume its normal every day rhythm and the people of Syria will be safe once more.

It’s a dreadful situation in England, now hundreds are in court, all those who got swept up in the riots.

I see the riots as an expression of absolute hopelessness of people who feel totally disenfranchised.

They have been told daily in the newspapers, radio, TV that their lives will get even worse after the cuts.

Many have nothing to look forward to but a life on benefits with no perspectives for a better future for them or their children.

Then there is also the daily news of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and atrocities such as Syria murdering its citizens.

And the distressing pictures from Libya, Bahrain, Tunesia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt have also had a huge effect on people.

A shame no one has the political courage to say, we are responsible for what happened, now let’s see how we can resolve this and empower people.

They should invest in education as a priority; and restore paying money to encourage kids to remain at school from age 16 to 18.

Instead there have been calls for water cannon, teargas and rubber bullets by David Cameron the Prime Minister and other politicians.

These are calls for violence to resolve violence which surely can never work; it also shows that the Conservatives despite describing society as not just broken but sick have no interest in a strong healthy society.

Seeing the unknown man in Syria being so cold bloodily killed on the Dutch TV news, last night was horrible.

Made me think again about democracy, and what a thin veneer it is, scratch the surface and what do you find.

In Egypt the people rose up in January, protested and overthrew the 30 year dictatorship of President Mubarak.

Mubarak took over when Awar Sadat, who became president in 1970 when Gamal Abdel Nassar died of a heart attack, was assassinated in 1981.

Sadat and Nasser were part of a bloodless coup of officers, which overthrew the corrupt monarchy of King Farouk in 1952.

King Farouk came from a dynasty that ruled Egypt and Sudan from 1805 until he was overthrown.

When Mubarak took over in 1981 he, like others, before him claimed to want to get rid of corruption and ended up as corrupt as all leaders become,

The people of Egypt have not known freedom for hundreds of years; they have either had a corrupt succession of kings or corrupt presidents who imposed martial law.

Now they want to decide for themselves, I hope that they will not be too disappointed by democracy, which is basically the same people taking turns.

Government by the people sounds good, but it seems to me that it is more of a slogan than a reality.

Every four years or so, the democratic countries have an election, people vote and a new government gets installed and everything carries on as before.

The real interest of the people are not served, what is being served are the interests of big business and the wealthy elites.

We do not really need any governments all we need is cooperation between people; governments do not do any work or produce wealth that is what the working people do.

If we here in the west were also, to wake up to this reality and try and get rid of all the ‘’parasites’ that live of our work/efforts.

Then we would see that thin veneer of democracy vanish and the armies would be ordered out onto the streets and we too would be getting shot for daring to want to be free.

Great courage is what the people in Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, Iran and Morocco are demonstrating.

The Libyan people are doing this even when facing extreme violence from the Libyan state and their mercenaries.

Scary to read of fighter jets bombing peoples houses, they have been destroying the neighbourhoods the demonstrators come ftom.

I did not realise until I heard that on the radio, that Israel were not the only ones to destroy the homes of any who they identify as troublemakers.

The entire family are punished and lose their homes, in Libya they kill the people and then destroy their family’s home and livelihood too.

People have been asked whether they are not scared to risk their lives, and the common response has been that they have to carry on.

That they have nothing to lose as they are already being killed, and have been for years, so have nothing left to lose.

I think it would be brilliant if Tunisia and then Egypt were the inspiration for all the other countries with dictators get rid of them now.

So come on Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, Saudi. Arabia, Iran and Morocco and maybe this may sweep through Africa too.
