Enjoying the Sunshine.

It is Wednesday again and Ton Peeks from the RCA, the Amsterdam Rehabilitation Clinic was here at 12.30 to inspect my bottom.

Again everything looks good, Richie thinks the skin tear is smaller but Ton thinks not, for him the change is not enough to register.

We had quite a discussion about what it was that was stopping the healing process.

Richie explained that he had removed the new cushion from the shower chair last week, after our last appointment.

There seems to be less friction now without the cushion which makes it easier for clothes to be removed and put on.

Richie explained that taking the cushion away has made the whole process of transferring me from bed to shower chair much easier.

And once in the chair Richie can now remove my thermal leggings without causing friction because of the effect of the cushion.

We got the cushion at the end of December and had been just using it when the tiny tear occurred.

At first it made good progress and in the first two weeks healed to half the size and since then it is stagnating and there is no progress.

It looks good, there is no infection but also no progress, it is extremely frustrating especially now that it is slowly becoming spring.

Really had hoped to get outside for my birthday in two weeks time, it would be nice if when Ton visits again on the 17 and there was good news.

I put this aside to enjoy the spring sunshine which has gone now as clouds have drifted in and the sky is now very cloudy.

Briefly it looked lovely, even Spike seemed to enjoy the sunshine, Micky Dolenz from The Monkees was on Radio 5 which was rather nice.

A blast from the past, it was charming to hear him talk and to hear a couple of snatches of The Monkees music

Looking forward to the day being slightly longer as it does not get dark until 18.30 that is wonderful progress as spring becomes a reality for us all in the Northern Hemisphere.

Herrad,

I'm so sorry that your wound healing isn't going better. Spring is such a wonderful time of rejuvenation for those of us in dreary climates. Keeping my fingers crossed that your wound will improve.

Take care, Donna

I'm the rebellious sort, and I say damn the wound and begin to get up at least an hour or two each day anyway! With all of the many changes going on in your body that you have shared with us, perhaps it's time for you to write your own destiny and do what pleases you, if only a little, and believe that there will be few, if any, consequences, but benefits instead, like gaining more enjoyment from the day! I hope with all my heart that this wound heals soon, but what if it never heals? Will you spend the rest of your life confined to your bed when you could be up enjoying life a little more while you are able? I say all of this only with the utmost caring and respect. Just some food for thought. Enjoy reading your blog every day!

Damn! No change again. Well, I do hope it's that cushion that was stalling things, so that good news will arrive soon! :)

Hi Soulsoprano,
Thanks for your visit and comment.
You have indeed given me food for thought,
Sadly I do not dare risk sitting yet as that could result in a wound which could quickly get deeper like the one I had last year.

Hi Rain,
Thanks for your visit and comment, we are hoping it was the cushion that was doing it and we are hoping that we will soon see a positive result.

Hi Mort,
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.
Glad you liked the Monkees clips, lovely thinking of you singing along with the Monkees.
There are some wonderful things in YouTube.
It is very frustrating that it is not healing, hope your mum's toe heals soon.

Thanks for you 3 friends for coming by and leaving comments.
I enjoyed the sunshine today, hope like Mort that spring is no its way.
Have a pleasant Thursday.
Keep warm.
Love,
Herrad

I certainly do understand, Herrad. Of course only you know what is best for you in your situation and I would never pretend to know better. I suppose I am such a caring person I feel badly that such a seemingly small thing is keeping your from doing something that brings you so much pleasure, being able to be out in your living room instead of cooped up in the bedroom. I've been a nursing assistant for 27 years, and I understand all about those wounds and how nasty they can get, but I've seen more that are aggravated by staying in bed than by sitting up, as long as the sitting up isn't for extended periods. I'm sure you and your therapists are taking all the right approaches. My field of work is in hospice, so I am a firm advocate of patient choice, which sometimes means not necessarily doing what is status quo. I also firmly believe in the power of positive energy being able to heal and rejuvenate those cells more quickly. In other words, your being so very careful might be the very thing that is setting you back, and maybe the reason you are seeing no improvement when before there was a little each time. Just more food for thought. Praying and standing with you in positive thoughts and sending my love your way.
