Spike Being Restored To His Full Glory Very Soon.

Yesterday was quite a difficult day for us, waiting nervously all day for the 16.00 pm appointment with the Orthopaedic vet.

Thinking about all the things that the vet might say was very worrying indeed.

The vet thoroughly investigated Spike; he also took a couple of x-rays and a scan and was very pleased to see that the problem with the spine had been resolved with the months rest.

This was very good news, as an operation would have been very complicated and there was no guarantee that it would be successful.

If it was not successful we would have had to have Spike euthanized, which would have been the worse scenario possible for us.

The vet explained that the problem was that the knee caps were loose and needed stitches to secure them on both knees.

Compared to what might have been this was peanuts, the vet suggested three options for us.

1. Do nothing and see what happens

2. Operate on the knees.

3. Both at once or one after the other with a gap of 2 months in between the operations.

One operation at a time was what was decided, then 6 weeks recuperating and then some weeks of walks and playing for Spike before the second operation

Does not sound like a very pleasant time for poor wee Spike or for us as we have to lock him up for a total of 12 weeks.

At least the operations will restore Spike’s ability to run and play and enjoy himself which is the best possible reason for the operations.

Compared to the other option we feel we have got off lightly, I am looking forward to Spike being restored to his full glory very soon.

Hi Herrad,

Hope Saturday is a pleasant one, and big HUGS to Spike! Always glad to have the least intrusive thing happen to our pets for sure.

It's sunny and will be near or at 60 degrees today, lots of trees are blooming pink flowers, wish you could see them.

Oh gosh, I would have made the same choice! Spencer's lens detached in his eye in 2006. The vet said she could go in and try to re-attach the lens, and it might give him some vision, but that the chances were only 30% successful, and if made worse, the eye would have to be removed. I opted for no operation. When the chances are so low, it's not worth putting them through so much pain is it?

Dogs are so resilient! I think we feel more pain than they do when they hurt!!! :)

Hi Stephany,
Thanks for your visit and comment.
The least intrusive op is the best glad it is the less serious op that Spike needs.

Hi Rain
Thanks for your visit and comment, you are right dogs feel pain differently
When they hurt themselves while playing they do not notice it.

Thanks both of you sweethearts for coming by.and leaving comments.
Have a good weekend
Love,
Herrad

We are so happy for Spike that his spine is doing well and Catfish and Annie sent Spike lots of doggy hugs and kisses.

It is so stressing and heart wrenching when our fur family members are hurting.

So glad that it is looking up!

Jan, Catfish, and Annie

Herrad - so glad the problem can be corrected through surgery. Sounds like Spike isn't a big fan of the crate, but at least he's used to it so you won't have both the issue of the recuperation and the new create to deal with simultaneously.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your visit and comment.
You are right it is very upsetting when our furry friends are not well.
It has been a worrying time since Spike has been in the crate.

Hi Cranky,
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.
It will be a relief when both ops have happened and Spike can run and play without pain again.

Thanks all you lovely friends for coming by and leaving comments.
Appreciate your visits very much.
We have been very worried about Spike and are glad that his pain can be solved by an operation.
Have a good evening and a pleasant Sunday.
Keep warm.

Hi Kris,
Lovely to see your comment thanks for your visit.
Spike is 8 years will be 9 in September this year so the op should give him years of fun running and playing.
Have a good day.
Love,
Herrad

Feel so sorry for Spike, but at the same time glad that such treatment is available in the West.

Hope everything comes off well and Spike is up and running around soon. How old is he?
