Poor Spike.

French Art

After 2 beautiful days today is more difficult, Richie took Spike to the orthopaedic vets for his first of two knee operatio ns.

It was very quick Richie took him there at 9am and came home around 10 by and by 13.00 we had a call that the op was done.

Richie went to get Spike right away and rang me to say prepare yourself for an onslaught of noise.

When he got to the vet he could hear wee Spike howling from the road outside the practice..

Spike was given methadone, the crying and howling is his reaction to the drugs.

He has sounded like moose a few times, but mostly I think he sounds like a little creature who is crying in pain.

Little sweetheart glad it’s done now hope it is starting to heal quickly.

Spike is squeaking, no longer as loud, nor is he doing the full roar of a buffalo, that he did when Richie had just brought him home.

Poor little thing, great that methadone works well bur shame the side effects are so extreme,
Poor wee Spike.

Hate to think of the effects on humans, we do realise mostly what is going on and what we have taken and how it would affect us.

But a small dog in pain after a big knee operation is a sad sight and sound.

If he is like this tonight I will need another pill so I can cope with the sound of little Spike crying.

Now he has to spend 6 weeks in the cage recuparting.

So sad for Spike. Sorry he has to be caged - does that mean you can't hold him for a little bit each day?

Nothing worse than a pet in distress as I said on Richie's blog.

Hang in there Herrad. He will heal - it is just gonna take a while.

Take care,
Anne

Poor Spike - poor thing. It always breaks my heart to hear/see people and animals in pain. But its for the better - and soon enough he'll be running and jumping and happy - and hopefully won't remember any of this.

Just give him lots of extra love and care -I know the two of you will... :)

My dog, Sabrina Isabella, had her kneww surgery done in Oct. She was on a pain med for a while and also rimadyl after. She could go out to use the yard on a leash and right back. Her first check up was at four weeks. Her 2nd at eight weeks. She's almost ok now.

Poor Spike. I think anyone who has animals dreads taking their friends to the Vet. I hope he feels better soon.

Paw hugs from his friend Holly in the States. I hope he doesn't mind a paw hug from a cat? (Do Spike and Marlene like cats?)

Many getting well wishes, one can only hope that " a bitter medicine, will help more than it takes to get it".

A nice night and even better start into the weekend for you all.

Poor Spikers. Poor Richie (who has to take care of him. Big breaths - he will heal and this too shall pass.

On another note - I was thinking about your skin tear that will not heal. Have you tried a spot of Tea Tree Oil on it. You can get it at a Natural Food and Remedies store, and it is like magic for many things. Recently I pulled a hangnail and left a 1/4" gash which hurt like hell. I put on a drop of TTO and it was completely healed the next day. I say it's worth a try!!

feel so sorry for him. Hope he recovers soon and is out of pain. My Sheeba hurt herself and took pain killer shots.

Defending the apartment again which is such a sweet thing for him to do.
Yesterday was shocking seeing and hearing Spike's distress mostly as a result of the methadone.
Today Spike is looking more like himself again
Have a good day today.
Love,
Herrad.

Herrad - glad Spike made it through his surgery okay and that he's now on the mend. It's so hard to see our lovely pets in pain, with no way to explain the situation. Glad, too, to read at the bottom of the comments that he is doing a bit better now, past the initial pain and distress.
