Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice in Amsterdam.

Today is Winter Solstice, the shortest day in the year, it has been a beautiful day here, the sun shone and the sky was azure blue.

It is extremely cold, so cold we have the heating on all day for a change.

There was plenty of bird activity on the bird feeders and sea gulls swopped onto the roof opposite.

Had a good session with Mathilde, we talked and laughed our way through 30 minutes of arm, shoulder and back exercises.

Then she left happy with a Green & Black's Chocolate selection, Richie bought a few to give to our friends.

It is a really good thing to do, to give friends a nice surprise, each one wanted to open it right away and share with us.

Each time they were quite happy to be persuaded to take it open unopened to enjoy at home alone or shared.

As soon as it was 3 pm the clouds have drifted in and it is a soft cloudier sky, still with a hint of blue.

Getting dark now it is 4 pm, lovely to see the light fading fast, going to get Richie to keep one curtain open so I can enjoy the Winter Solstice sky.

Happy Winter Solstice Greetings.

Herrad - happy Winter Solstice to you too. I am always happy to see the solstice arrive because I know each day that follows will just a little bit longer, light-wise.

We had snow over the weekend and it's a sunny day here too, so the view outside is quite lovely.
